Keep Friday nights at Hollow Press, or take the whole week.
Context: On 1 October Dana asked for five nights a week through November, $200 a night. The launch week already took the Sunday. Friday night is fine. Tuesday and Wednesday are when the day clients send notes, and the Keel invoice sat longer than it should have because I was on that launch. The conflict showed up in the bank delay, not in how I felt about Dana.
Options: all five nights at $200. Friday only at $200. Five nights at $275, and push the day deadlines. I wrote the third one down and crossed it out. A higher rate does not manufacture a second evening. The collision is the hour.
The pick: Friday only, $200, through 27 November. I tell Dana on Monday 6 October, in writing, before those nights land on a calendar. Tuesday through Thursday go back to day work. I do not offer the other nights "if it gets busy." That sentence is how Friday becomes five nights without a new decision.
Review date: 20 November 2026. I do not reopen this before then, including if October is quiet and the money looks easy. December, if I want it, is a new page. I do not edit this one.
I almost left the review date blank until things settled. A blank date means this argument comes back every Sunday and pretends to be a fresh thought. 20 November is after their November issue ships. That is the only reason to look again.
Adapt: Fill context, the options, the pick, and a review date. If you cannot name the date, you are not finished, and you should not tell the client anything yet.
Adapt: Put real figures and real days in the options. A choice between "more" and "less" is not a choice you can stand on later.
Adapt: If this log is only for you, cut the sentence about telling Dana. If someone else must hear it, keep the day you will tell them. A log with no send-date is a diary.
